Janessa Marsh, owner of Parker-based Academy of Art, underwent surgery last month to remove a cancerous growth, and medical bills continue to pile up. Her husband lost his job in May, and the family has recently incurred financial struggles.

Business at the Academy of Art has slowed down and “it has been a hard year for my family,” said Marsh, who has two children. Marsh is heavily involved in community activities, including a mural project at Keiffer’s Crossing, an underpass that leads beneath South Parker Road to O’Brien Park.

The garage sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Parker Fieldhouse in activity room 1.

Items can be donated anytime before Nov. 14 at Parkglenn Self Storage on Parkglenn Way west of South Parker Road and south of Lincoln Avenue behind Auto Zone.

The event runs from 1:00 -7:00pm. Shifts are available from 12:30- 4:30 pm or 4:00- 7:30 pm. We schedule volunteers to arrive before the event begins and also to stay slightly after to allow visitors to wrap up their activities. 

Location: The Wildlife Experience is located about 10 miles south of downtown Denver and one mile east of I-25, at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Peoria Street. 10035 S. Peoria St., Parker, CO 80134

Parking:  Parking is free in our main lot on the south side of the museum. 

Check-in:  Please enter the museum via the outside door next to the Boa Café. (Turn left at the crane sculpture in the middle of the courtyard. The door is on the south side of the building and will be marked with signage) Take the staircase down to the registration area in the basement. 

Event Waiver Form: If you are not a regular museum volunteer, you must sign a liability waiver. (A copy is attached.) The waiver asks for contact and emergency information. Please bring this signed document with you on October 31. Please note, teens must have the form signed by a parent or guardian.

Refreshments:  Beverages will be provided during your shift and a meal will be served either before or after your shift.

Job Stations:  Job station assignments will be given to you at the volunteer registration table when you arrive.  If you are given an assignment you are not comfortable with just let me know.  Assignment examples include candy stations, crafts, cookie decorating, haunted house, story telling and more.

Attire:  Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  For this event we encourage our volunteers to arrive in costume (nothing too scary or provocative, though.) If you do not wish to wear a costume and have a museum uniform shirt, please wear that.  If you don’t have a uniform shirt, please wear a solid color polo shirt and slacks.  No blue jeans, please.
